A note from Bishop Weaver on mission & ministry resources
Ever since the birth of the church at Pentecost, Christians have been “on fire” for mission. That day folks from “every nation under heaven” heard, in their own languages, the Good News of “this Jesus God raised up” (Acts 2:32).
From that day on, the message of faith, hope and love, peace, justice and salvation has spread like “wild fire.” Paul, with fire in his belly, traversed the boundaries of the Greco-Roman world. Wesley, with his heart strangely warmed, crossed the socio-economic boundaries of the English-speaking world. Melville Cox, with a burning desire to serve Africa, set out from New England as the first American Methodist missionary over 175 years ago.
Today our United Methodist mission, as stated in the 2008 Discipline, is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” All across the New England Conference, I discover people and churches that are on fire for mission in their neighborhood, across our region and around the world. And they are being transformed even as they participate in God’s transforming work. In this New England Missions section of our web site is fuel (resources) to keep your church burning bright with creative, life changing, world transforming mission.
Pray for the fire of the Spirit as you use these resources.
